About

nkhra

Welcome to North Korea Human Rights Advocate, a student-coalition dedicated to reports, commentaries, and discussions on human rights crisis of North Korea in which countless people are deprived of their basic civil liberties under the repressive government.

Intent

NKHRA is created and maintained by a group of students of diverse nationalities ranging from Canada to South Korea upon the foundation of a common purpose: expression of integrated voice for freedom in North Korea. Amid numerous places in which we live, often characterized by well developed and civilized cities of skyscrapers, perhaps our view of the world has been narrowed, if not blinded, into an idealized and romanticized world where extreme hunger and oppression no longer exist. Unfortunately, however, freedom, love, and proper rights, which so many people take for granted today, are trampled down in North Korea by her own government.  As the tension between the Kim Jong-Il regime and the international community has increased recently, the situation of people in North Korea has worsened as a result of reduced external humanitarian support.

NKHRA is established not to simply reiterate a tragic historical event in far in the past; it is built to address the misery that is happening right now and that will continue to happen tomorrow.

Contents

The articles that we post up (you may also join our team of authors) refer to our personal research and analysis on the information from internet websites, news articles, document extracts, scholarly journals, etc.  Thus, we acknowledge the possibility of some bias in those articles.  You are always free to comment, suggest, or disprove any statements made in this site.

In fact, through this website, NKHRA intends to function as an interactive place of open discussions  about North Korea human rights, or simply as an informative source for any visitor. We also hope to facilitate exchange of personal reflections and considerations between readers and writers as much as possible.
